I am looking for anyone who has successfully enstalled Baycom modem with
AX.25 and NOS. I cannot get the software to work. I do not know whether
it is the AUTOEXEC.NOS file, or the commands I am using.
Thanks

Subject: DRSI HF Modem??
To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu
I have a DRSI Type 2 and a DRSI Type 1 in my 386, which runs a
packetcluster node. I find that the HF modem does a very poor
job. At one time I owned a PK-232 and it could copy just
about anything. The DRSI HF modem seems to have real problems.
Has anyone else beside me actually bought one of these? If so,
how do you find that it works? de Rick VE9HF.

What are you going to do with the crystal? If you'll be using it
in an oscilator and you need it to be accurately measured, build the
oscillator (see TTL databooks for a good circuit) and measure that.
If you're using it for a crystal filter, you more likely need the
series resonant frequency (the TTL oscillator is parallel-resonant,
and typically a few kilohertz higher in frequency, and changes with
varying capacitance). Series resonant can best be had by using a
signal generator and an oscope. If this is what you need, write me
for details (won't waste bandwidth this way).

Well ... to date that has been the case:
CLOVER far outperforms any other protocol on HF.

Subject: MFJ 1274 - Info wanted
To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu
I have recently bought an MFJ1274 TNC. All working well. But thought
that it should have MAIL facility. I couldn't find anything in the
User Manual that referenced MAIL (having scanned it several times).
Eventually, while in QSO with a friend, he suggested trying to type
'MAIL ON'. Suprise - suprise, it accepted it and presumably enable
the mail system. Why is such an important feature undocumented ?
However - I am new to packet and in need of advice as to how to use
my TNC's mailbox, e.g reading it! Can anyone please enlighten me ?
The specification on the box and when the TNC powers up, is that it
supports FAX and BPL (what's BPL??). Does anyone know how to use
these from the MFJ1274. I have a couple of FAX progs, e.g. JVFAX
and WEFAX, but not sure whether I can use this TNC with these progs.
Would be very grateful for ANY info - especially any other undocumented
command !
Life used to be so simple with a morse key !!!!

The trainphone system was basically a huge air core transformer, using
existing line side wire (including catenary, where present) and the
rails to form the coil. The frequencies were in the 30-50KHz regions.

A feature. RR business stayed private.

Actually, it's the other way around; signals from the inductive loop under
the track are picked-up by a small coil mounted on the locomotive. This
system feeds the block-occupancy information from the track circuit to
relay-logic on the locomotive. The signal indication is relayed in the cab
of the locomotive. If the engineer does not acknowlege the signal
indication (by pushing lever) and respond appropriately (by observing the
appropriate seed restriction for the signal indication), the logic applies
the emergency brakes.
This system and variants were a result of a federal regulation (ICC or FRA
- I forget) that allowed higher speeds if such automatic safeguards were
implemented.

To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu
Can anyone tell me where I can obtain a Microsoft Windows 5Mhz Oscilloscope
program that will run on my PCⁿs sound board which supports stereo right/left
channel input to display a lissajous pattern?
The reason I'm looking for this type of program, so I can attach my sound
boardⁿs input, to my PK232 TNCⁿs mark/space output, for tuning digital signals
on the HF bands. Updates need to occur at a minimum of 2 seconds to make tuning
functional, and the oscilloscope display Windows needs to be scaleable in size.

Subject: WA8DED rom wanted gor v2.6 need higher
To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu
Hello,
I have a tnc2 with a rom that contains wa8ded v2.6 and tapr 1.1.7.
I have discovered that the software has some disavantages.
Example:
when receiving frame 2 and 4 the tnc sends a RR3 (receiver is ready to
receive frame 3). after frame 3 has arrived it sends a RR4. But frame 4 is
has already arrived correctly. The tnc should have send a RR5 (ready fore
frame 5).
The software that I use with my baycom modem does this correctly. It saves a
lot of bandwith because correct frames aren't transmitted again.
I asume that this function is already built in in newer version of wa8ded
hostmode software. I have version 2.6 at the moment but I have read postings
of people talking about 6.6.4.
My quest is the search of this new software.
Where can I find romimages of this new software or where can I buy it??
(btw. I live in the netherlands europe, so obscure stores in singapore are
out of the question. unless the have internet access).
More information about wa8ded is also very nice I got a document that talks
about v0.91 and I use v2.6 so there is probably a great difference.
